Affiliated with Americans for Tax Reform, Tholos is a 501(c)3 educational foundation originally founded in 1985 at the request of President Reagan. Our organization is named for the tholos on the ancient Athenian agora, where the Athenian Senate dined and met with prominent members of the community at large. Like the conversations that took place in the ancient Athenian tholos, our work is focused around coalitions and cooperation, both within and outside government structures.

On a concrete level, the Tholos Foundation promotes effective policy in two main ways:

1) The Tholos Foundation conducts research and education on effective public policy from a free-market perspective, with a particular emphasis on taxes, spending, regulation, innovation, and property rights. Our most well-known publications include the International Property Rights Index and the Trade Barrier Index.

2) Tholos organizes coalitions of free-market advocates and their cultural allies both within the United States and around the world. This includes in-person meetings; more than 2500 individual leaders meet every month at Tholos-organized meetings from Naples, Florida to Naples, Italy.
